Cats

Here are some of the cats that I have known and loved.

Lamoni
A friend gave us Lamoni when he was 3 months old. That was in 1990. He is our "learning" cat. We did not know much about cats when we got him. We have learned much. He has learned too. He has learned to wag his tail like a dog, and to play "hide and seek" with Cindy. He meows and when she tries to pick him up, he walks around behind her and meows again. Cindy is "hard of seeing" (read that as legally blind).

His name is pronounced La-MOW-nye. I say that he is not named for a small town in Iowa but rather for the king of ancient scripture from which the town draws its name. Cindy says that he is named for the town in Iowa because, as a child, she had a cat with this coloring when they lived in Lamoni, IA.

The shot above was taken when he was about 2 years old. He is resting on the old stereo. To get an idea of the scale, below his nose is a full sized door for the cassette player, and the recessed opening to the right of that, near the tip of his tail, is the slot for an Eight Track tape.

Fifi
In 1996, the members of the family of one of my former co-workers wound up going each their own separate ways. One of them took the family dog, but none of them wanted to take the family cat. They were going to put her into an animal shelter. The life expectancy of a spayed 2 year old female is about a couple of weeks in our area shelters. When we saw her, we liked her right away. Well, we really wanted a second cat. Fifi is cute in her own strange sort of way.  We took her in so as to save her life.

By the way, the flash makes her fur look white, or very light gray, in this shot. She is many shades of gray, but none as light as this appears.

Boots
Boots belonged to my friend John. John lives on his farm in the eastern part of the metropolis. Boots was part of the first litter of "barn" cats. Those outdoor cats were not supposed to come into the house. Boots had this way of getting in to your heart. When I would stay late into the night working on computer solutions, Boots would sleep on the desk between the monitor and computer tower. I would work to the combined sound of the computer fans and Boots' purrs.

Boots was killed in the spring of 1998 by a car.

This shot of Boots and her kittens was taken on an 8 mm camcorder, and loaded with a Snappy.
